Free MMOs that offer solid gameplay and an enjoyable RPG experience are few and far between, so I thankfully stumbled upon Regnum Online in my search for free MMOs and have been a fan ever since
So many MMOs offer free gameplay but lack the essential elements of the whole RPG experience. Some will lock quests, items, or have level caps that force the player to pay a subscription fee to continue play. While I am not wholly against memberships, I don’t think $12 to $20 a month is worth it to play an MMO. I came across Regnum on an MMO website and the reviews for it were solid. The game is a refreshing change of pace from the point and click games that saturate the market today. While the graphics are a bit dated, Regnum makes up for it in gameplay and territorial wars, where the three kingdoms you have to choose from in character selection battle each other for castles and fortresses.
Regnum is a bit slower paced than many MMOS today and it has a similar feel to the ill-fated Rubies of Eventide, where special affects don’t overwhelm the senses and combat is straight forward. One of my favorite aspects of Regnum are the towns and the sense of accomplishment after weathering the monsters to get to the next one, The town sizes vary and some are more fun to explore than others, but each has a number of quests to complete before you continue on your journey.
Overall, Regnum is a fun little game that slows things down to allow you to appreciate the MMO, all I can really say is to just try it, but make sure you pick the English speaking server, otherwise it will be a little difficult starting a guild.
